Promos that have a little extra something, made draw you in and keep you watching.
Get your headphones on! Proud of the atmosphere we managed to create with this promo for LIFE Conference.
The brief called for a cinematic conference promo with limited ability to shoot fresh content. So we did some magic in the edit - using carefully curated stock footage, a lot of sound design, and recording a killer voiceover performance.
That and an experimental studio shoot with nothing but than a single backlight, a plastic sheet, and a fan. Not too bad!
Edit in collab with Alex Mitchell, especially that final motion graphic goodness. Voiced by the talented Paul Norell.
Serious prep to acheive an unserious result.
This promo for LIFE's Mens Gathering event was cast, recced, lovingly art directed, and full of character (and characters). All serving a simple idea: letting every guy know there's a place for him there. This was a blast, being part of the creative process from pre-production through to creating the final edit.
Director - Livi Dow, DOP - Matt Gerand, and Art department - Tylor Fortuin and Nathan Phillips.
I approached this promo for the Christmas creative production with the idea to slow things down, stepping away from the usual fast-paced collection of highlight b-roll. Knowing we had captured epic slow-mo emotive shots from previous year, the goal was to slow down the scroll and really feature the magic in each moment.
Highlights b-roll captured by Rushabh Savla and myself.
LIFE set the yearly theme each year at Vision Sunday, which this year was based on the Māori proverb 'He aha te mea nui o te ao (What is the most important thing in the world?) He tangata, he tangata, he tangata (It is the people, it is the people, it is the people)'. That we are called to love others, in word and in action.
We created a long form preached message filmed at Papakura Marae, and a creative intro script featuring speakers from a dozen languages and cultures sharing the same message. The promo for that special Sunday and showing of that long-form piece became the above edit, with the goal to reveal that cultural base theme, and tease to some of the coming creative content, different faces, and action shots of that 'love in action'.
